Giants' Zito records first win against former team

06/13/2010 - San Francisco, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Juan Uribe drove in a pair of runs to help the San Francisco Giants take a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the middle installment of a three-game interleague set at AT&T Park.

Pablo Sandoval hit a solo homer and scored twice for the Giants, who have won the first two games of this series. Andres Torres and Aubrey Huff each drove in a run and scored a run for the victors.

Barry Zito (7-2) gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings to pick up the win. Zito, who won a Cy Young Award while pitching the first seven years of his career with the A's, fanned six batters and walked two to improve to 1-4 lifetime against his former club.

Matt Carson and Adam Rosales each hit solo homers for the Athletics, who got three hits, an RBI, and run scored from Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Ben Sheets (2-6) allowed five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits in a six- inning start. He has lost three straight outings and hasn't won since May 8 against Tampa Bay.

Trailing 5-2, Oakland scored twice in the eighth to make things interesting. Guillermo Mota started the inning on the hill for San Francisco and walked Mark Ellis, who scored on Kouzmanoff's double. Jack Cust then walked before Santiago Casilla came in from the bullpen. The runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Ryan Sweeney walked to load the bases with one out.

Jeremy Affeldt then took over on the mound and walked pinch-hitter Gabe Gross to force in a run. Brian Wilson came on and retired the next two batters he faced to keep the Giants ahead.

Wilson put runners on the corners with two outs in the ninth, but got Landon Powell to ground out for his 17th save of the season.

The Giants scored a run in the first on Uribe's RBI single. Torres led off with a double and scored three batters later on Uribe's hit up the middle.

Carson's first homer of the year tied the game in the top of the second, but San Francisco plated a run in the home half to go back in front. Sandoval walked, moved to second on Sheet's errant pickoff throw, and scored on Torres' base hit.

The Giants added two runs in the third to build a 4-1 lead. Freddy Sanchez reached first on Cliff Pennington's fielding error and crossed the plate on Huff's triple. Uribe followed with an RBI single.

Sandoval's solo shot to left-center in the sixth made it 5-1. However, pinch- hitter Rosales hit a solo homer of his own in the seventh to cut the gap to three.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
