06/20/2010 - Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Switzerland pulled off the biggest upset of the FIFA World Cup by beating Spain, 1-0, in its opening game of the tournament.
Now the Swiss will try for their second win in as many matches when they face Chile at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday.
The game features the top two teams from Group H, with Chile winning its opener against Honduras, 1-0, a result that pleased manager Marcelo Bielsa.
"I think it was the right result. We played well, we never sat on our lead and they didn't make us suffer," Bielsa said. "We attacked well although we could have had a few more goals, and that might work against us in the final reckoning."
Chile striker Alexis Sanchez played particularly well in place of the injured Humberto Suazo, but goals figure to be more difficult to come by against a sturdy Swiss defense that has gone 483 minutes over two World Cups without conceding a goal.
Switzerland's defense was on top of its game against Spain, a team that lost for just the second time in its last 49 games.
Gelson Fernandes scored the only goal in the 52nd minute after a scramble in front of the net, and even the Swiss midfielder admitted that the goal was a bit fortunate.
"We were a little lucky but you're always going to need a bit of good fortune if you want to beat Spain," Fernandes said. "It was a really demanding match for us and this is a very special moment.
"What we have to do now is to keep our feet on the ground."
The lone blemish in the Spain win was an ankle injury suffered by defender Philippe Senderos, and he could miss the rest of the tournament.
But if Ottmar Hitzfeld's Swiss team is able to take at least a point from the match on Monday, they will have to feel confident of advancing with a game against Honduras left to play, while Chile will want to secure all three points as it finishes up its group stage schedule against Spain.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP
With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.
There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
